@tracingowls There are a lot of really good people in The Satanic Temple, and some of them even do some good work. Your desire to want to speak to just a regular member makes sense.

However, the organization is not grassroots; just the opposite, it is incredibly hierarchical, authoritarian, and abusive.

More than one person has compared it to Scientology ("scientology for mall goths") or a business cult. It is, among other things, a for-profit corporation owned by two men.

TST has threatened to sue former leaders who criticized it under the pretext of "violating NDAs". TST claimed to be a "private figure" when suing Newsweek and its reporter for defamation. TST claimed a TikToker defamed it and forced her to record a retraction under the threat of a lawsuit. Then sued her anyway after the retraction.

Hells Bels couldn't talk about any legal successes because they don't exist.

But unlike actually effective organizations such as the #ACLU or #TexasEqualAccessFund, #TheSatanicTemple doesn't have transparent finances. For-profit corporations can have private finances but they're supposed to pay taxes. Nonprofits are not taxed that way but have to have public, transparent finances.

TST is not a federally recognized religion; so what they mean is one of their corporations is a tax-exempt church, which both doesn't have to pay taxes and is not required to publicly disclose where money is coming or going.

@tracingowls But when it comes to The Satanic Temple, there's always more and it's always worse

Attached: 1 image In short, The Satanic Temple is: - ineffective at what it promises to do - opaque in regards to its finances - structured to be internally authoritarian with unaccountable leadership; and - its two owners have troubling interests that show up in TST's work repeatedly But when it comes to The Satanic Temple, there's always more and it's always worse. https://queersatanic.com/why-you-havent-left-the-satanic-temple/

@QueerSatanic Thank you. As you said, I wanted to speak to a regular member, not necessarily about the Temple but about the person's reasoning and beliefs. My show is about beliefs and the paranormal, and how they shape people. Organizations and legal drama are not my cup of tea, and not the focus of my show. I do not personally need to agree with a person's chosen religion, but I do want to talk about how it influences them personally. She has a positive experience, and that is her story.

@tracingowls Understood, but try to imagine if you had on a rank-and-file Scientologist to talk about their positive experience with Dianetics.

"I don't get involved with Scientology's legal drama" would not be much of an excuse to promote and allow the regurgitation of their propaganda, esp. for people stalked, harassed, and otherwise targeted by that group

Because when #TheSatanicTemple threatens to financially ruin you and your family because you spoke critically about them, it's something a bit worse than drama

It's your show. You get to decide what kind of tea you serve. But you can't say now that no one ever tried to tell you.

@QueerSatanic I am glad you shared this so I may be aware in the future.
