What do folks think about #ukraine. Is the US prolonging war and civilian suffering by supplying armaments?

@redwood History may may not repeat itself, but it certainly rhymes. We’ve seen what happens when a totalitarian society is met with #Appeasement, it results in more death and destruction. The #UkrainianPeople know what will happen to them if they lose, here is what I think is a valid assessment:

The Brutal Alternate World in Which the U.S. Abandoned Ukraine — The Atlantic

Ukrainian resistance and American support prevented a wide range of horrors.

@CivilityFan But what if we were also forcing parties to the negotiating table?
@redwood Sorry, but I don't see any negotiation needed. Russia invaded Ukraine and claimed ownership of Crimea in 2014, then grabbed more land this February. If Mexico sent troops to stealTexas back from the USA, claiming it was theirs because it once had been, and if they had the military to do that, do you think we wouldn’t fight to kick them out, every single solitary son of a bitch? Why should there be a negotiation, Russia invaded, if they keep an acre, there will be more war, not less.
@CivilityFan Negotiations are needed to stop the brutal carnage and loss of life. All through history conflicts end with negotiation or in complete and utter destruction. BTW, in your example the US would be Russia and Mexico would be Ukraine.
@redwood It was #Ukraine that was invaded, they are fighting to remain a sovereign nation, so you missed the point of my analogy. If you cannot see that, then I do believe you are being intentionally obtuse. This war was a choice that Putin made, and if his Russia succeeds here, it will lead to more war and destruction, not less. If human life matters to you, consider the results of Chamberlain and his claim of “peace in our time” that ended with 73 million dead. That’s what appeasement begets.
@CivilityFan the name-calling is not productive. You want to teach Russian a lesson by using the Ukrainians as fodder. We’ll have to just disagree.
@redwood Wtf? Describing your actions as intentionally obtuse isn’t name calling, it’s calling you out for ignoring the obvious. #Ukrainians are fighting for their country, depriving them of weapons isn’t going to stop them fighting, it will only stop them from winning.
