I like how media conglomerates are making it harder and harder to get content legally. Blu Ray drives are increasingly more locked down, and licensing fees are increasing so no OEM wants to pay for it. So either spend too much money on a Blu Ray disc that may or may not work with your current equipment to rip the media, or just torrent a web rip for free.

It's weird to look at the music industry as a shining example of how to do media distribution correctly. You want a DRM-free lossless audio file? Okkie we sell them on Qobuz or Bandcamp. Have at it.

@kepler Don't forget the slow-motion trainwreck that is the state of online streaming of video content. Every publisher starting their own subscription service with only their content on it, exclusives everywhere, preferential treatment of operating systems/browsers/devices...
Yeah, hard to imagine anything happening other than piracy coming back in full force. Convenience wins over piracy, but the convenience is very rapidly diminishing.
@Gawdl3y I don't understand the logic behind spending hundreds of millions of dollars on DRM technology to make it impossible for users buying your physical media. Most users will totally settle for paying for streaming service bullshit because the alternative is self hosting a bunch of content on expensive hardware or having to get off the comfy couch to change over diskc. Just make it easy to buy your content DRM free @-@ You'll make money without deterring people from your streaming services.
@kepler I got so fed up with that and every individual studio wanting to charge $10 a month to stream their stuff that I subscribed to a VPN and went back to the torrent sites. Cheaper and less frustrating just trying to watch something, not to mention keeping movies and shows I really like on a hard drive so they don't just disappear if they changed licenses on streaming sites.
@TwitchDaWoof I never stopped torrenting  The streaming wars just made getting stuff easier with how old shows now have modern web rips.
