I would genuinely love to read a good explainer on the visceral hatred some portions of the right have for Zelensky.

Like, much of it is far beyond “we shouldn’t use American taxpayer money on this,” or “I disagree with XYZ policy.”

Any good links?

It doesn’t seem that complicated. They debased themselves slobbering over Putin and defending Trump’s attempt to extort Ukraine. The only way they’re not monstrous moral cretins is if Zelensky is somehow a supervillain.
Here’s a familiar psychological phenomenon I bet you can think of plenty of examples of: Sometimes when we’ve wronged someone and don’t want to admit it, we perversely resent that person. We double down and invent ways they are the real villain and probably deserved it.
Trump’s low-rent gangsterism toward Zelensky only looks more and more repulsive in hindsight, as do those who made excuses for it. The more admirable he appears, the more shabby and cowardly they seem. So he cannot be admirable. He must be made the heel somehow.
You know how domestic abusers will sometimes get even more enraged at the sight of their victims crying or getting sympathy? That’s essentially Fox & Zelensky now.
@normative it’s amazing how much of the stuff on the right these days parallels domestic abuse. “Look what you made me do!”

@normative I'm just happy that Zelensky is too busy and mature to pay it much mind.

If he were like the average low-rent Republican he'd be trading barbs about it on Twitter while his country burns, but instead he's trying to drum up support to fight off the invasion.

@normative I don't think these Republicans understand just how bad it makes them look to the rest of us to so vociferously attack a guy who is trying to protect his country from genocide.
