Anyone in #birding know what these are? I found them on my Flickr from a while back and the Merlin app isn’t coming up with anything close 🪶🤔
@wiscomestique look like some sort of ducks. If you have the Merlin app, browse the Waterfowls section in "Explore Birds".
@wiscomestique I'm pretty sure those are Muscovy Ducks but without knowing where they were seen I can't be 100% sure.
@Pepsilora I agree. Muscovy Ducks. Common in parkland.
@wiscomestique I have 10 of them in my flock. They come in different colors, but black with white wings is predominant in the wild. Technically speaking, they aren't ducks but are their own special kind of waterfowl, native to South America. They're kinda semi domesticated for farms and homesteads (for meat, eggs, companionship, and garden pest control), but can also have invasive wild populations in some areas.
@Nickittynic Ahh thanks! I think the South America part was what had thrown me off because I saw them in Ohio. They’re absolutely beautiful! 😄

@wiscomestique You can tell Muscovy by their bright red caruncles on their faces, which kind of look like lumpy masquerade masks. They are also generally very quiet. They can quack, but only really do it when they are startled or fighting. Otherwise the males make a huffing kind of noise and the females quietly chortle.

Clearly I love them 😂
