I am truly horrified & outraged that the Taliban has banned women in Afghanistan from attaining education. The founder of Islam, Prophet Muhammad (sa), loudly condemned such barbarity when he declared, "Education is obligatory upon every Muslim male & female."

In fact Prophet Muhammad (sa) cherished both spiritual & secular education, & encouraged reading & writing for all people—not just Muslims. We stand with Afghan women. Indeed, Taliban terrorists are the antithesis of Islam & all humanity.

@QasimRashid bizarrely many schools in Northern Afghanistan, particularly in the Jowzjan province are still teaching high school girls.

@QasimRashid

The only way to get beyond today's philosophy of keeping your constituents angry, scared, and stupid is education.

For all.

It will take 2-3 generations, I will probably not be alive to see it. But educated youth knowing how to think, not being told what to think... To turn this world around

Support all youth

Support all teachers

@QasimRashid My Muslim friends taught me about Muhammad's wife, who had a thriving business when he married her. She was intelligent and accomplished. These Taliban leaders have never followed the example of the Prophet.
@QasimRashid Sad thing is, there's a lot of people in the US (Christian) who'd want to do the same thing, if they could.
@QasimRashid This is what Texas and Florida will look like if christian fundamentalists win there.
@QasimRashid can your say where in the Koran is says that? It could be helpful one day when someone tries to equate the Taliban with Islam.

@wndlb I'm not sure what a wiki link to his first wife had to do with what I asked.
@Singlepayer1978 The Prophet’s (sa) actual actions are not a thing of significance??
@wndlb maybe but I asked a specific question and you gave me a big long wiki page for his wife when asked when he Muhammad stated it. Maybe that's somewhere in that wiki article but I'm not going to go read the whole thing.
@Singlepayer1978 A pretty good case can be made for the proposition that she ran him.
@QasimRashid #Funfact: The only reason we can nowadays read greco-roman philosophers and chronists these days was because islamic scolars archived their works whilst christians destroyed most...
@QasimRashid I was happy to see your share on this subject.
It seems there is a conflict between a verse saying that women should stay home and a verse saying that women and men both should be educated. As a woman who is not Muslim and who is educated you don't have to guess hard to state which verse I would agree with most.
Someone asked about texts and I found this. It seems relevant:

@QasimRashid it’s so sad that it has gone back to this. Truly barbaric
@QasimRashid Friendly reminder that religious radicals rarely incorporate the actual teachings of their religion.
@QasimRashid what reasoning (if any) do the Taliban use to justify this oppression? I do not know much about Islam but your quotes from your prophet seem to be quite clear, how can this be (mis)interpreted in such a poor way?
@sailingbikeruk They don't have any reasoning. It's patriarchy through and through. Indeed in 859 an African Muslim woman named Princes Fatima al-Fihri founded al-Qarawiyyin, the world's oldest existing university. Taliban are ignorant, violent, insecure men. They're a scourge on humanity.
@QasimRashid Has anyone ever asked them to explain this person? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khadija_bint_Khuwaylid?wprov=sfti1

@QasimRashid there will always be those that just use religion to obtain and abuse power. We do it here in the west, too.
