Mastodon lacks the surplus of idiotic takes that help build robust community on Twitter.

I bet everyone here is just too darn polite to point out that “surplus” is singular and “help” is conjugated for the third-person plural.

Although I hear it’s possible to start flamewars over the merits of emacs…

@dhnexon Nah, I'm rude enough that I tease John Ganz for his sloppy editing. This is a genuine gray area, where a given style book may legislate clearly but practice is inconsistent.
@dhnexon I blame the lack of a gif menu.
@dhnexon Six weeks. Let the Christmas holidays pass and the first misery of the new year to arrive and let's see then how people respond to the growth of their fresh new social media accounts.
@dhnexon Be the change you want to see in the world. Post the dumbest cringe. I believe in you.
@dhnexon That's because it's still early in the party and people aren't fully liquored up yet
@dhnexon Derp. There. There's an idiotic take to help you out.

@dhnexon

It takes a village. Here’s my take; just throw the noodles in the pot while the water warms up. Don’t wait for it to boil. Believe in yourself.

@dhnexon It also lacks the algorithm that forces us to see those idiotic takes.
@dhnexon this is true. BUT... I had my first back-n-forth on the bird site in a while w/a Tesla owner/fan. It actually turned to a substantive discussion as like me he had owned a Volt & was disappointed b4 switching to Tesla, and I assured him that the Bolt I got in replacement was a real improvement. He seemed to hear that.
@dhnexon OTOH, I'm in an instance here that is oriented on unions, and my recent post about school bd elections that my union made a diff in got more than a local union audience (who are mostly on FB).
@dhnexon if it helps, I can assert a few uninformed opinions to make everyone feel better
