The Washington Post is the newspaper most likely to try stuff and I'm delighted that @jeremybowers says they're spinning up a Mastodon instance as we speak. Bravo.
@jeffjarvis @jeremybowers
#WashingtonPostMastodon, owned by Jeff Bezos, is perfect for the role as a Mastodon Instance. They could include journalists, advertisers, and subscribers.
@jeffjarvis @jeremybowers that’s encouraging news indeed.
@jeffjarvis @[email protected]
acknowledging the potential that the wapo move obviously has, we must not forget that a certain jeff bezos is the wapo owner

so big money is watching carefully what is happening on the
fedi > the wapo move may only be a prelude to big companies taking advantage of the fedi - to the disadvantage of the rest, of course
@testing @jeffjarvis So basically the same thing as what happens with #Linux then?
@gregoryopera @jeffjarvis
now this would be sad!

look at all those nda's for drivers & how linux has succumbed to nda's while still proclaiming to fight for open source (skipping license stuff right now because it is a mess)

i prefer the
fediverse not to get trapped like this
@jeffjarvis @jeremybowers
This is sooo good, I can’t even put this into words. I hope this a a future example for other
News orgs.
Jeremy Bowers (@[email protected])

@[email protected] @[email protected] Jury still out on if we host an instance, but we're actively working on adding links to profiles for our journalists! Trust is important!

Mastodon
@jeffjarvis @naught101 Eh, we’re working through the pros and cons. We’re bullish on Mastodon though.
@jeremybowers @naught101 If you beat The Times and The Guardian to having an instance I promise to praise you across all social media, relentlessly!

@jeremybowers

Well, you *could* take a poll and see how many subscribers and/or readers you have here but I’ve heard lately social media poll results are suspicious.

@jeremybowers So my fondest Christmas wish for the Post and Mastodon is to provide share-on-Mastodon buttons on stories. Discussed this last night on This Week in Google & @leo showed how it's working on the Advent of Code. Users do need to enter their instance but then it's easy. It would be a great service for users. It would send a strong message about the Fediverse. Please, Santa?
@jeffjarvis @leo Code freeze is real but this is a good next step for us to consider!

@jeffjarvis
@jeremybowers @leo

The folks at NYT would be pissed if you and your colleagues from WAPO would beat them on this 💪 (would link to Mastodon profiles if there were any)

@ASP @jeffjarvis @leo Nah, they’re good folks over there (and my former coworkers!) and I am sure that they’re working on it just like we are.

@jeremybowers
@jeffjarvis @leo

This is awsome! 🤩

And kudos to you for those unprompted nice words about your former coworkers. 👍

@jeremybowers

I'll do the same if you setup #friendica for the journalists and #mastodon for subscribers of the Washington Post!

@naught101 @jesuisatire
@jeffjarvis

@jeremybowers @jeffjarvis @naught101

As a long time subscriber to the Washington Post, I really hope you create your own instance here. Several other news orgs have already done so.

@BylinesNetwork
@TexasObserver
@TucsonSentinel
@restofworld

Maybe talk to them and see how it's going for them?

@ZhiZhu @jeremybowers @jeffjarvis @naught101 @BylinesNetwork @TucsonSentinel @restofworld we're happy to chat with almost anyone in the media about this ... obviously we're a much smaller newsroom which I'm sure makes a huge difference in this kind of thing :)
