A meme I made in reaction to all the tweeps still arguing for tight character limits on #Mastodon, claiming it "forces them to be concise" (ignoring the fact that many tweeps would just break those "concise" sentences up into dozens if not hundreds long tweet-threads...

Seriously, geniuses. No one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to use the entire character limit. You wanna cut your thought off at 140, 280, or 500 characters? Great! Get to it! Stop using that as a nonsense argument to force OTHERS to truncate their thoughts to match your limited attention span. 🙃

#twittermigration #twitterinvasion

Struggling to remember a single time I saw a popular tweet that wasn't a one-line shitpost that wasn't extended into at least a four or five post thread.
@toplesstopics they’re just mad because snarky one liners only seem like an acceptable response when you only have 280 characters to work with.
@Oblivion_Wonder "snarky" is putting it gently! Dear god, please let mastodon never implement quote tweets...
@unfa Except I'm talking about the convention that exists on twitter...hence, "tweets."

@toplesstopics Oh, sure!

I apologize, it was meant as a silly joke, but I did not signify it at all, so it was a joke only in my head.
Sorry!

@unfa oh good haha I thought it was a legit "well, actually" and was feeling quite disappointed in you 😅

@toplesstopics I'm sorry :D

I guess if I added an appropriate emoji like 🤪 it would make my intention clear?

@toplesstopics "I paid for the full character limit so I'm gonna use the full character limit!" 🤪
@introvertnudist I sincerely doubt most of these tweeps are actually giving any funding to their instance owners :p after all, they've been using twitter for years for "Free"

@toplesstopics Oh I know it! I used to help admin a Mastodon instance years ago that closed down due to lack of funds, and after the birdsite $8/mo. news was abuzz I wrote a blog post saying it's not actually so insane of an idea that you should pay to support a service you like. Into the early 2000's, people paid for e-mail inboxes, even! It was usually a package deal w/ your ISP but still.

I took the $8/mo. birdsite wanted and I donate it to my Masto instance to help them keep the lights on.

@introvertnudist some heroes don't wear capes XD Honestly though, with no data to harvest or adspace to sell, instance owners are the true starving artists...
@toplesstopics Thank you! I never liked twitter specifically because of its character limit. No serious argument can be made without being divided into lots of little chunks at arbitrary points which breaks the rhythm of the language. The whole site is filled with slogan flashing and an ever growing number of weird abbreviations that makes my non-native speaker brain hurt. I don't want Mastodon to be like that!

@Phantom
I definitely agree on the character limit. That's why this account, on eldritch Cafe, is my main account. I made a gaming account on @mstdn.games and another on @mastodon.lol but because the admins won't increase the default 500 character limits I refuse to use them unless I have to (like posting about a new gaming livestream or whatever, which I then boost from this, my main account, so my followers here can see it).

I dealt with almost a decade of tiny character limits forcing me to butcher up my thoughts, I refuse to go back.
