BIG NEWS: New York Mayor #EricAdams has announced a “reimagining of Fifth Avenue — from Bryant Park at 42nd Street to Central Park at 59th Street — as a safer, less congested, pedestrian-centered boulevard that also prioritizes cyclists, mass transit, & the public realm.”

This is one I’ll be watching!

@BrentToderian so many thoughts and feels and memories of this area from my elementary school years — so exciting.

@BrentToderian I like the way the model pictures have lots of US flags so everyone knows this is still a patriotic American city and not some elegant goddamn pinko socialist Euro liveable paradise...

@BrentToderian Do you have a sense of where the motivation / follow-through is coming from within the Eric Adams administration re: urbanist policies? I have difficulty believing that a cop who doesn't live in NYC cares about livable streets, but his admin does seem to be making significant progress.

@skyfaller @BrentToderian Man I'm still not sure exactly how cynical to be on here vs the old site, there are *so many* dark jokes popping into my head immediately.

At the very least I suspect this will be used as some sort of greenwashing or pro-displacement scheme, we'll see.

@BrentToderian Eric Adam's seems really cool. Also promotes plant based eating to people as well. I usually think politicians making a difference are often to good to be true but hopefully he's for real.
@dove @BrentToderian I wouldn't go that far - he's a cop who supports cop violence and whose FUD is probably what lost us the whole damn house of representatives this election. He's got a mighty deep moral hole to climb out of before any of us should offer him any respect.
@BrentToderian this is going to make the high end retail corridor really nice. I’m curious if they will allow pedicabs on it. They bar them as commercial vehicles on the west side bike path.
