Fuck the Harry Potter wizards for not curing cancer.
@hankgreen
I mean, it gets worse, in the new movie series they were supposed to explicitly let the Holocaust happen
@hankgreen How do we know they didn't? There seems to be a significant lack of herpes in the Harry Potter universe too.
@hankgreen I've always liked the explanation from The Magicians, that cancer is much harder/impossible to cure by magic because it's "a part of you" in a way viruses or bacterial infections are not.
@jimbosaurus @hankgreen I thought of The Magicians and cancer puppy, too. 😔
@hankgreen it’s like they don’t even care about Muggles.
@hankgreen did we ever find out why they saw wwii coming and went "mmm they're probably fine"
@lindsayellis I think maybe it was the old “oh shit I wrote too much canon and accidentally made my characters nazis” problem. I almost did it once, actually.
@lindsayellis @hankgreen they were more concerned about secrecy
Grindelwald actually wanted to stop wwii, but they stopped him to avoid going public
Which is only just *barely* not making her world pro-nazi

@lindsayellis @hankgreen

Wasn’t in the third movie, and there won’t be a fourth and fifth.

@hankgreen Fan fiction consensus is that cures don’t work on muggles because they lack a “magical core.” And yes I signed up for Mastodon just to tell you this
@hankgreen i actually get so wound up about that, all their illnesses are goofy magic ones. gaah
@hankgreen "if you have the ability to teleport why would you have nature's slowest bird delivering your mail" -brennan lee mulligan paraphrased
@hankgreen someone is feeling spicy and saucy! Go @hankgreen
@hankgreen Ok, that was enough to convince me to follow you.
@hankgreen Anyone with $10 million could do that right now. Non-invasive. Free for everyone. Uses cool lasers. Ora Lee Cancer Research Foundation. Proven to work, just needs to finish trials.
@hankgreen yep, this is why HPMOR/Significant Digits is way better. (Disclosure: I've only read like 2 chapters into SigDigs)
