Saw some ads for traveling to Chicago during the winter. THE WINTER.

As a former Chicagoan, I must say that this is the most foolish shit I have ever seen.

@shengokai lol that's as dumb as when we had the Super Bowl here in Mpls in '18.
@shengokai We got a snowstorm incoming this Thursday with a foot of snow and expected Windchill of -30 on Friday
@kirkmanbrandon I still get alerts about Chicago weather because I have folks there and I saw that and I'm just like "NOPE."
@shengokai FWIW, Helsinki airport used to have a banner up saying “Nobody in their right mind would come to Helsinki in November. Except you, you badass.”.
@shengokai As a current Chicagoan, for the love of God, stay away. Our own residents can't drive during this time, the last thing we need is idiots in rental cars.
@shengokai this is especially hilarious given that we're about to get hit with a storm that supposedly is going to rival the snowpacolypse that happened in 2011

@alcapurrias I saw that the projected map was all purple and pink and immediately texted folks back home "don't go outside."

Good luck to y'all.

@alcapurrias @shengokai

I remember the Blizzaster of 2011.
I opened my front door and the snow was a wall. I stayed home that day and my boyfriend later shoveled me out.

Good times.

@shengokai I mean, that’s just cruel.

@shengokai

Come to Chicago for the food and museums. Stay because the airport can’t operate in a blizzard.

@lorddimwit If that isn't the goddamned truth.
@shengokai
It's better than traveling through it, at least. Last several times I had to fly through O'hare, it seemed like they never budgeted time to de-ice the planes. In Chicago. In winter. So many missed connections.
@shengokai Also former and native Chicagoan. The image of people having to hold onto ropes to keep from being blown into the ice of Michigan Avenue south of the Water Tower is imprinted in my mind with chilly PTSD.
