I love programming, fonts, computing esoterica, and learning languages (even if I’m not very good at it).

We’re in Houston, to tour memory care facilities for my father. My wife came a day later (after depositing the kids with Grandma) for moral support, God bless her.
Wife (texting): I’m close to the hotel.
Wife (texting): I’m at Taco Bell. I took the wrong turn.
Me (texting): Sounds like the right turn to me. 🌮🔔
We grilled burgers for dinner tonight.
Hours later, after the kids went to bed I went out to re-cover the grill now that it had cooled down.
When I went outside, our decidedly indoor (but apparently unexpectedly outdoor) cat ran like the angel of death was behind him from under a patio chair and leapt to the door, snatching at the doorknob.
So I let him back inside.
Anyway he’s by the backdoor meowing to be let out now because he’s an idiot.
Databases indexes, arrays have indices.
I don’t make the rules.
Cat: *lays in the middle of the floor*
Me: Look at this asshole.
Wife: He’s being good!
Me: He’s waiting…waiting to be bad.
12yo will soon be 13yo and he wants an iPhone, so…he’s getting one (I had an old
Apple gift card from a traded-in laptop from a couple of years ago, so it was basically free) because apparently (and I’ve checked) every single one of his friends has one.
The skew on phone choice towards Apple for the younger generations is, from what I understand, pretty extreme, like 90%.
12yo is saying we have no food for lunch and it’s turning into a “what have the Romans ever done for us?” situation.
Yes aside from the turkey, ham, roast beef, bread, sausage, cheese, pretzels, eggs, leftover Chinese, apples, tuna, canned soup, and crackers we have no food for lunch.
I wish we knew more about the Harappan/Indus Valley civilization. At its peak it seemed to have incredible way of life. I was reading about it last night.
Next time around, I’ll be an archaeologist.
My wife’s mom is here. I’m in the other room.
12yo: Grandma, do you want sushi?
Grandma: I mean, I like sushi.
12yo: If *you* say you want it, Dad will get you sushi.
Me: You know I can hear you, right?
Anyway we’re getting sushi because I’m a good son-in-law probably the best.
