Are you interested in #wellbeing and developmental psychology? Than stop scrolling and read our latest paper on a novel #youth wellbeing assessment tool! I'm extremely proud of this one😊Why? Because adolescents were actually part of the design process. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0191886922005438
A🧵[1/5]
For decades researchers have been examining the construct of wellbeing. Yet, few studies have attempted to capture wellbeing as a multi-faceted construct, whose conceptualization may change over time, depending on the perspectives of the current generation of #youth. [2/5]
Together with @EvelineCrone, @SuzannevdGroep, @R_vdCruijsen & Marike Polak, I conducted a multi-sample mixed method study to develop the Multidimensional Wellbeing in Youth Scale (MWYS).
Study 1⃣ An online survey study among Dutch-speaking youth (N = 339) was conducted to inspect which initial MWYS-items were viewed as being important for their wellbeing. [3/5]

Study 2⃣ We co-evaluated the original MWYS-items and co-created new items with adolescents and young adults (N = 25) via focus groups. This was an iterative process. After each focus group the MWYS was adapted.

Study 3⃣ The validity and reliability of the updated MWYS was tested (N= 189). PCA revealed five components: 1) having impact, purpose, and meaning; 2) dealing with stress and worry; 3) family relationships; 4) self-confidence; and 5) feeling respected, appreciated, and loved. [4/5]

All subscales were correlated to well-known validated measures of #wellbeing and related constructs. The internal consistency of the items as well as the test-retest #reliability were found to be good.

In conclusion, the MWYS was found to be a valid and reliable measure of adolescent wellbeing. The MWYS captures the essence of how today’s generation youth views wellbeing and which specific components they believe are important for their life. 👏[5/5]
