Day 20 of the #DoctorWho #AdventCalender!

It’s Yasmin Khan, “Yaz” to her friends!

Can you believe she’s the longest-serving companion to the Doctor? (In terms of real time, depending how you count companions). I feel that even so, we didn’t quite get enough development of her, and the story of her love for the Doctor felt so incomplete in the end 💔

What did you think about Yaz? What were your thoughts on #Thasmin?

@tardis I feel like Thirteen's run was full of fantastic potential characters who were never given the writing to shine in the way they deserved. Yaz was one of these; Jericho was another.
@tardis
I feel the same way. I want to like her but the show has given me little reason - beyond "The Doctor REALLY REALLY REALLY llllliiiiiikes her (...... What, nooo, they're just VERY GOOD FRIENDS who don't even hug when they're saying goodbye)".
And that's fine, as a starting point. If the Doctor likes someone, I can believe that they are likable and I can invest emotionally. But it pretty much ended there and I don't think I know Yaz (or 13's other companions) more than superficially.
@tardis I’m a bit confused how you calculate her to be the longest serving companion? When you say real time do you mean 2018-2022?
@peterw yes, in terms of real time years it’s the longest we’ve had the same companion I believe. But not in terms of episodes.
@tardis I think Sarah Jane or Tegan might have been longer. Elisabeth Sladen was in four consecutive seasons in the 70s. She’s my favourite companion so I was curious how you had Yaz as the longest 😀
@tardis I would have liked there to be more of a story made around Yaz and the Doctor's feelings for one another. When they eventually spoke about them, it was almost a non-event. The time they spent together just before the Doctor regenerated was all the more poignant because we knew how they felt. Early on in Thirteen's episodes when the she had to check whether she was dating Yaz, it seemed to me that there would eventually be an engaging story built up around their relationship, but it sort of fell flat.
