One of the things that "Mirror, Mirror" did that every other Mirror Universe Trek episode failed to do was that our crew kept doing the right thing even when it was extremely against their self-interest to do so. (The DS9 and especially Discovery episodes... not so much)
Kirk trapping himself because he it was worth persuading Spock to change his wicked universe's way would have fit with that!
