Instead of holding a death watch over Twitter, we might encourage a path to recovery and federation with Mastodon. Why not charge $25/yr for twitter, and let advertisers offer vouchers in exchange for ads or lead generation for those who prefer a subsidy? Then, pulling together as a community, members earn ownership shares for every year they are a customer. Flip the company to employees/members. The community buys out Musk.

@gregeb

You almost arrived at the concept of a #PlatformCooperative.

Now go two or three steps further. 🌺

@jpreisendoerfer the trick is the handoff. Need to pay down debt, restore advertiser confidence, etc. Stock could be held and resold in a digital ledger.I avoid “cooperative” because it sounds like communism and optics matter. I’ve also been a member of two cooperatives, and they often self implode. It’s the old direct democracy vs representive government question. I tilt towards Athens. https://genuineideas.com/ArticlesIndex/rad.html

@gregeb

No #cooperative or #mutual is required to implement #DirectDemocracy, although it's good to do so.

I like 'Cooperative' because it stands for values which have proven to work for decades, and because it is pretty much the conceptual opposite of #VentureCapital (though not necessarily so).

In many jurisdictions, including #FRG, cooperatives are the most stable legal form of business of all available.

One of the largest #software companies in FRG is a cooperative (#DATEV).
