I’m not an infosec expert or anything but I don’t think that’s right
@prehensile hahahaha that's a NOPE
@prehensile the world's leading provider of hardcoded credentials, as @riskybusiness has been known to say
@prehensile open ports get probed.😶
@prehensile That's the OPPOSITE of how it works aaaaaa
@prehensile this is like barracuda's ad campaign where their tagline was "security solved" as if buying one of their antispam appliances was a magic silver bullet
@prehensile Oh... so that's what we've been doing wrong all along. Clearly the solution to all our security problems is to connect everything to the internet. EVERY...SINGLE...THING.
@krux @prehensile broken until dead is a short of secure!
@krux @prehensile that is correct, that’s why we all should have a linkedin account
@prehensile
If it's connected, it's infected.
@prehensile Cisco's #infosec history emphasizes how wrong this is
@prehensile “If it’s online, it’s non-fine”
@prehensile that does sound optimistic at best.
@prehensile sounds like you’re expert enough!
@prehensile more like: if it’s protected by Cisco, it’s disconnected.
@prehensile Should be its and not it's? Can never get it right it(')s infuriating!

@pvsub @prehensile Looks like the "it's" are contractions of "If it is connected, it is protected." So "it's" seems to be the right variation of the its vs. it's conundrum to use here.

*& now I want an It's-It.

Vanilla IT'S-IT® | It's it Ice Cream

A legend of San Francisco, created in 1928 and just as delicious and mouth watering today, as it was on its creation day nearly 100 years ago.

@pvsub @prehensile that's one of those English words that just ignores all the rules.

I just have to remember that it doesn't follow the rule of possessives, because 'it's' is a contraction, not a possessive. 'its' is the possessive form.

It's really stupid and weird but this is just how English is and -everyone- hates it

@prehensile ive done numerous cisco security units and i just, cannot believe this is real. is it a cisco advert or someone using cisco's logo. do we even know? i have so many questions
@machinesbleedtoo it was on like every surface at sfo terminal 3 but maybe it was an extremely ambitious guerilla art project
@prehensile it might just be them signalling they use cisco and doing the wE'Re sEcUrE lip service thing then??????? just slapping the logo on there?? i cannot comprehend cisco itself okay-ing a sign like this cos yeah its,, bad
Network + Security = Connected & Protected

Cisco is unleashing the firewall. Post-Partner Summit, we highlight the simplification and profitability of our partner profitability programs and the opportunities around the firewall refresh cycle.

Cisco Blogs

@prehensile in context it makes sense, which means its an awful slogan. bc context is the only thing that makes it work. sufgjsdhfg sfd

anyway thats one mystery of the universe solved today

@prehensile @machinesbleedtoo It is in fact their new global Security campaign
@Mooneye14 yeah, i found it and linked further down this exchange. its just a very bad slogan bc it only works in context
@prehensile obviously this is for Cisco’s new line of condoms geared towards developers
@prehensile I agree. It's a matter of transferring data that you want, vs data that you want kept private.
@prehensile I think I would definitely suggest that if it's NOT connected, it's more protected (but not impenetrable)
@prehensile I don’t know an Admiral Adama reaction gif but…. That
@prehensile I think “If it’s connected, it can be infected” is closer to reality.
@prehensile Agreed, just having Cisco products on your network isn’t going to “magically” make your network secure…🙄
@prehensile i am most tech dum people out there, and even i know it works the opposite
@prehensile That’s not how it works … That’s not how any of this works!
@prehensile
Oracle: Can't break it, Can't break in.
@prehensile
no, it is ridiculous and reminds me of the oracle slogan of its databases being "unbreakable" 🤣

@prehensile

I dunno, these weren't connected so they weren't protected...

@prehensile The opposite is: The Innernet:tm:! You can't connect to anyone, so no one can connect to you!
@prehensile I think "it" in this case is your bank account, and "connected" means "paid up subscription".
@prehensile that’s a laugh indeed
@prehensile I think @mikko has a couple of thoughts about this.
#IfItsSmartItsVulnerable
@prehensile i have a cisco certification where it explained airgaps in one point so this funny
@prehensile "As long as it is connected, it should be considered as a potential target for an attack, so please finally understand that security is a process and never 'done'".
