The new ~$850 billion defense budget would direct billions of taxpayer dollars to private contractors.

Let's call this what it is: a massive redistribution of wealth to the military-industrial complex.

This is while nearly two-third of Americans are living paycheck-to-paycheck.

@rbreich wow i actually agree with you for a change
@rbreich How is this any different from any other defense budget?
@rbreich While we're helping Ukraine defeat invading Russian military, I'm not going to get too worked up about the military budget. Particularly not when it's overshadowed by the $10T tax cut the GQP gave to the wealthiest 1% of the country, while their wealth is growing exponentially.
Taxes are going up on the poor and middle class, while they dropped into the basement for the oligarchs.
@rbreich I have spent a good part of my life hoping to find a "savior" brave enough to cut "defense" substantially. It is an insane waste of resources. I am afraid I will not see the day.
@rbreich Indeed. Been a long time fan, thank you for standing up for regular hard working non billionaire Americans!

@rbreich

Wealth distribution is only bad when it goes from those with too much money to those without enough money. Robbing from the poor to give to the rich is good for the poor. We all know that.

@rbreich Putin started this mess but every Ukraine ally jumped on the military-industrial train.
@rbreich #WeThePeople prefer #peace but #Capitalism prefers violence-especially the type that involves weapons. $$$ talks.
@rbreich Well we might get to see Trump's tax returns - if the House Ways and Means Committee votes yes tomorrow to release them.
@rbreich predicted and warned about > 60 years ago...
@rbreich This is when I can't see the difference between Dens and GOP. Both like to fund war.
Cost of National Security

What counts as national security depends on your perspective. These embeddable counters track how much the U.S. spends on a variety of programs that protect our future, from military to food assistance. Do our nation's spending choices align with your priorities?

National Priorities Project
@rbreich also no money for homeless vets I assume.

@rbreich

Been like this since Ike warned us. What else is new?

@rbreich right? I want to know where every dollar went. Hell, I'd settle for every thousand.

@rbreich
It's a return to cold war era defense spending due to adversaries returning to cold war era belligerence.

What's your solution that doesn't involve appeasement of πŸ‡·πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¨πŸ‡³?
