If you were making a list of the best ever board games & could get lots more eyeballs on it - especially from folks unfamiliar with hobby games - by including Monopoly, do you think it would be worthwhile to do it?

@mattthr It would be nice to include it, along with the story about the original game that inspired it.
@mattthr I don't think it's worth it, since that would affect people's idea of your taste, which could make them dismiss your other reviews.

@mattthr A disclaimer: I actually like Monopoly, but I play it as it's intended to be played (no house rules, fully cut throat, and fast; 45 minutes tops). When played like that, I think the game actually does a good job of playing to it's theme as a warning about the arbitrary nature of ruthless capitalism.

That said...

I think it's important to place the commonly known games - monopoly, scrabble, etc - into lists of #boardgames because it grounds the list for those new to the modern hobby.

Then again, i'm also not a huge fan of all encompassing lists because they don't seem super useful unless they're a personal faves list (how useful is it to compare Quacks to Lisboa? They're not usually getting cross shopped).

@mattthr it should be referenced for grounding and SEO for sure, but putting it in the list is probably counterproductive. My local game Cafe has a large table on the wall:
if you know Monopoly, try RA
If you know Chess, try Hive
Etc
@mattthr My Yes has a big *asterisk* on it. It's worthwhile, if you mention Monopoly the Folk Game, before it was stolen, or The Landlord's Game, that Monopoly was adapted from.
