Yes please do use tags, that's how people not on the same Mastodon server as you will discover you. #cycling is a great tag, you won't have any trouble finding good accounts to follow.
@cyclingalps Tags are really important here, yes. You cannot search posts by text, only by tags. This is by design because of the distributed system, but also ideologically, to make it difficult to seek out people only to bother them, or for other bad reasons we now know well from the monolithic social networks.
Another difference is that favs are nice but do nothing for post visibility or discoverability. No one else can see your favs. The only way to share stuff is by tags or to boost posts.
@jverheul That is a shame, yes. Translation services cost money. If you pay for the social media platform by watching ads and getting forked on privacy, then they can pay for that stuff.
Edit: I guess you can use a browser extension in Chrome or Firefox. I don't know if that works well for just tiny parts of the page (I use Safari so no experience with that).
