Apple should run its own ActivityPub network. It would be the most affordable “takeover” of Twitter and perhaps its best and last chance to run a viable social network (aside from iMessage).
@danielpunkass Apple would have to maintain App Store like content standards and de-federation of everyone else would be a constant risk.
@danielpunkass just don't link to software outside the App Store.
@Eggfreckles @danielpunkass gonna need 30% of all Patreon signups from your posts...
@danielpunkass yes, so should Microsoft and Google. Then provide heavy integration at OS level.
@danielpunkass Given how resistant they are to everything, I don't see them “innovating” their services branch in ways that may hurt iPhone sales. They really aren't pushing forward these days.
@danielpunkass I don’t think running a social network sounds like fun. Making good hardware seems easier and more profitable.
@marcedwards But Apple runs iMessage, a TV/movie studio, a cloud services division, etc. None of those sounds as easy or profitable as making more iPhones.

@danielpunkass @marcedwards it could be @ danielpunkass @ mobile.me

😉

@bgrinter @danielpunkass Or @ bgrinter @ itools.social!
@marcedwards @danielpunkass didn’t get my first Mac til 2007, remember .Mac then mobile me, iTools before my time
@danielpunkass Maybe the line they shouldn’t really cross is ad-supported businesses? There seems to be loads of hardware opportunities that are adjacent to their current businesses—routers, more speakers, more HomeKit stuff in general (lights, security cameras), and just continuing to stay on top of Mac hardware etc.
