18 December 1942 | The Auschwitz camp commandant Rudolf Hรถss informed the SS garrison that in connection with the beginning of the holiday and new year period, the Lagersperre ("prohibition on leaving the camp") was eased for SS men.

However, the previous disinfection procedures were maintained: they had to go through a medical examination & disinfection (together with the luggage), and leave the camp site right after that.

Before leaving, they were allowed to stay at the Haus der Waffen SS (SS hotel near the train station).

At the same time, it was reported that because of the 'Julfest' holiday, the SS kitchen would provide increased quantities of different kind of cakes.

Why the medical examination & disinfection?
@drenik There was a typhus epidemic in the camp then. This is why the SS could not leave the camp area for quite a long time. These regulations were slightly eased, but yet the SS that were allowed to go on a leave had to go through medical examination and disinfection.
