@CarolNelson523 @actuallyautistic @simid That statistic is scary! I can tell you we are an #actuallyautistic #household. And though I knew I’ve always been #different, I never was #assessed let alone #dx in my youth. I absolutely didn’t connect those dots until I’d been working through my son’s challenges in the world. And it’s been astonishing to me how very crowded this group of us is!
Carol Nelson@btaroli @actuallyautistic @simid I’m a bit older than you and when I was growing up I never heard of Autism. The autistic children were either known as “retarded” or “the bad kids”. They were relegated to “other” classrooms. This is an example of how we didn't understand the difficulties & differences in people. And, I’m glad we now know more & better.
