I love turtles!This #NorthernMapTurtle, a species of concern, was found on the French River #Ontario Canada. These Northern Map Turtles, at the slightest hint of danger, slip in to the water. The Map Turtles are a freshwater turtle and the light markings resemble the contours of a map, hence the name.

@DebOppermann .. Following 👍 I’m a #DesertTortiose mom & a #reptile & #amphibian advocate. We get injured #turtles in for care, #WesternPondTurtles (California’s only native turtle) & #RedEarredSlidders an “invasive species”. Sliders are the pet store turtles & #IrresponsiblePetOwners have released them into the environment causing havoc for our native turtle. Results: Western Pond Turtles are now listed as a Species of Special Concern. Populations are down as much as 80% in some areas.

@NorthWind We have 8 native turtles in Ontario with all but the Painted Turtle listed as "at risk" and three that are endangered, that is sad, I have a few yet to see
