@themarkup Nice little article! Can't help but feel like it was a missed opportunity to not talk about The Markup running its own instance in the "choosing a server" section. I totally understand why, as an experiment, you want to start as "just another user" but it did skip over the biggest point of federation model, and the one that affects "finding rules and privacy policies you agree with" the most
