sudo confession-time --user linux --force
@nixCraft yes i ws procrastinating here, yes i have ran social media server under slackware linux without ssl (plain http), yes i probably stopped distrohopping...
@nixCraft the number of times I do "sudo su -", just to stay within the letter of the law...
@nixCraft Confession: I miss the "iinux" account from twitter.
@nixCraft I never distrohoped. Once everything was up and running I never looked at other Distros.
@nixCraft Oh and I have only ever used nano. I tried emacs but the learning curve was too steep.
@nixCraft I didn't use that much Free OS the last years. But, with the rebuild of my homelab, I will. 2023 will be the year of mostly no windows (thanks to valve and proton). I have to relearn so much.
My first step, a truenas Core Nas on a HP micro server N54L.currently working since 3 days ago. Not the greatest, but far form bad. Learning ZFS too.
I will use it for basic network and storage needs. Can't do more.
@nixCraft I installed Linux Mint on a Mac Mini
@nixCraft I have no clue why my systems don't seem to want to break. by all means they should considering all the stuff i do...
@nixCraft I use sudo when I don’t know what I’m doing 🥲
@nixCraft i still `cat $FILE | less` when I'm not thinking. I quit vim with :wq instead of :x. i use su for EVERYTHING. setenforce 0 is my first debug command and nearly everything compiled for my machine has -Ofast.
@nixCraft
To exit vi, you need to think like vi. You need to become vi.
@nixCraft despite having invested heavily in building a nice PC specifically to run Linux this year, I still gravitate back to macOS for my desktop because it's more coherent and reliable in daily use for that

@nixCraft

I embraced systemd and keep using more pieces

@nixCraft I recommend Ubuntu to others while using Fedora on bare metal, Oracle Linux on VMs, and openSUSE in containers.

At least one of those is a first-class one-way ticket to Hell. My punishment will most likely be to spend an eternity in a torture chamber with a lawyer.

@nixCraft I execute far too many commands as root than is healthy 😬

Also I swear I will practice more bass and cello and will learn to speak Norwegian as I promised myself

@nixCraft I still evaluate distros in a VM just in case my distro stops development. I thought apt was slow until I used Gecko's zypper.
@nixCraft I try to avoid Flatpak as much as possible because it runs like crap on my system
@atomic @nixCraft I'd like updated packages I need be as a native install... but...
@nixCraft Recently moved from Ubuntu, which I've already used over the past 8 years (including distro-hopping days), to Fedora and found it's a perfect distro which I can use for the next 5 years.
@nixCraft As an #archlinux user for many years (I use Arch btw), I confess I’m switching to #voidlinux on all my machines. But I don‘t know what to tell people anymore... „I use void btw“? It doesn‘t sound right…
@nehu @nixCraft it does sound right to me.
@nixCraft I tried snap to install plex... and I kind of like it. Though it's the only thing I've installed with snap, and now plex is too setup and used for me to change it.
@nixCraft I find I type :wq at the end of more things than I would like to admit. Emails, chat threads, all sorts or documents.
@nixCraft i have been "working" on my fvwm de for the past one year (i'm deleting the system then reinstalling it without doing the config)
