Hey, everyone. Quick #introduction since I'm new here. I'm a high-profile mom loving and raising a trans kid in Texas. I'm currently suing Gov. Greg Abbott after he directed CPS to investigate my family because of it. (info at https://www.aclu.org/cases/pflag-v-abbott)

Twitter got real weird real quick, so I'm hoping Mastodon can be a safe space for me to shine a light on the ways you can stand up to #ProtectTransKids. Thanks in advance for the follows. Let's get to work.

PFLAG v. Abbott

The lawsuit names Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who issued a February directive stating that health care that is medically necessary for treating gender dysphoria should be considered a form of child abuse. The suit also names Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) Commissioner Jaime Masters and DFPS as defendants, who followed Abbott’s directive and issued a new

@mrsbriggle Hi Amber, welcome to Mastodon! So happy to see you here! (I'm @ziti on the bird site) I hope y'all are doing well. πŸ’œ
@mrsbriggle I'm watching your Ted talk video from your website right now, you are an awesome mom! Wow! πŸ‘
@mrsbriggle Welcome! I’m a mom to a gay daughter and have been temporary mama to a trans kid while they were finding their voice. Best of luck to you in your fight!

@mrsbriggle I'm so very impressed with your TEDx talk ( https://youtu.be/t_gCASi58Ps ). I just want to say you are obviously a beautiful soul. I'm one of those #trans adults you mentioned, and I was crying tears of joy throughout your talk.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ πŸ’œ

@janetlogan that is so kind. Thank you. I actually super dislike my Ted talk today. I had never spoken publicly about my family's journey and did a lot of things wrong in that speech. No one was really out there modeling best practices for me at that point (in 2016) so I fucked up a lot in that speech. I'm glad it inspired you, but I'd do it all differently today if I could!

@mrsbriggle You obviously love your son. In my mind, that supercedes any technical errors you might have made.

I never felt such unconditional love growing up. Even now, 12+ years into transition, I still don't feel that from most of my biological family. I've got one sister and one (female) cousin who accept me as me. The rest turned their backs on me. Blocked me on Facebook. That's why I loved your talk. I could feel the love and mama bear energy. πŸ’œ

@janetlogan I'm so sorry to hear that. I just keep reminding people that if they didn't care the gender of their baby when they found out they were going to be a parent, then why would they care today?

Nothing about my son changed except his name and pronouns. And he got exponentially more amazing and confident. How could you NOT love that?!

I hope your family sees how much happier you are today. You deserve unconditional love. β™₯️

@mrsbriggle @janetlogan: You can do a new talk if you want to. You don't even need TEDx for it!
@riley @janetlogan thanks! I have a few I've done this year that I just need to upload on my YouTube. (I've gotten lots better!) I welcome introductions if you know anyone seeking a keynote speaker, tho!
@mrsbriggle Welcome here. I think you will find #Mastodon a much more friendly and supportive place. Best of luck with the suit.
