When even the *BBC* start putting up articles about Twitter blocking Mastodon - you know the birdman has screwed up big time.

Twitter blocks users from sharing Mastodon links

The social media giant has also suspended the Twitter account of its new rival.

BBC News
@mikegalsworthy *Waits for the BBC to be blocked*
@steveway @mikegalsworthy yes indeed… he is blocking everyone pretty soon..
@mikegalsworthy they were talking a lot about it on the today prog this morning, in that slightly panicky "but if twitter dies we might have to actual journalism!!!" way; they even interviewed one of the suspended American journalists and got him to explain "technical terms" like doxxing and federation

@mikegalsworthy “Mastodon is divided into groups, called servers, based on many topics including the UK, snooker, and security.”

WTA?

@natureworks 😂 yup, the 3 main groups of mastodon users: UK, snooker, and security.
@JackFromWisconsin hopefully you have snooker and security in Wisconsin, I wouldn't want any Mastodon users to feel left out 😆
@natureworks @mikegalsworthy who's running a snooker instance, and how did an elderly Yorkshireman get access to AWS?
I’d have expected a slightly better understanding of Mastodon than this from a BBC ‘technology’ reporter 🤦🏻‍♀️

@transponderings That is honestly embarrassing. I’m neither in tech nor a reporter and I can half-ass a better description than that.

“Rather than being hosted on a single site by a single administration team like Twitter, Mastodon is hosted on a network of interlinked servers. Some servers are focused on specific interests, like a love of snooker. Others are general interest. Each server has its own independent administration team.”

@mikegalsworthy Absolutely wild times over in birdland. Apparently Musk got roasted by some journos after joining a Twitter Spaces chat so he banned them, nuked the space, and now Spaces itself has been disabled from the app.

The guy's lost his head, I wonder how much longer Twitter will survive like this?!

Bradley Eversley on Twitter

“Holy Shit. Elon Musk just popped into a Twitter Spaces chat with a bunch of journalists. He was called out by journalist Drew Harrell, who he banned, for lying about posting links to his private information, then leaves almost immediately after being pressed. Here is the exchange”

Twitter

@mikegalsworthy looks like the EU could enforce sanctions. Maybe the UK could join the EU?

Twitter condemned by UN and EU over reporters’ ban

The United Nations joins the EU in warning Elon Musk over a "disturbing" move to suspend journalists.

BBC News

@natureworks @mikegalsworthy , that is a nice thought but have you met Britain? 😂🤣😂

The government would rather the people froze that be civilised with Europe.

@natureworks @mikegalsworthy

The answer is (sadly) in your question
"Maybe the UK could join the EU?"

@mikegalsworthy they explained Twitter quite well as well, they're learning.
@mikegalsworthy That's funny. How many instances are there? They would have to block each one individually as there is not just one centralised instance.
@BogLoper @mikegalsworthy no they’re not blocking mastodon, as you say they’d have a problem with that but anyone posting a link to mastodon gets a warning saying twatter has determined that the link is dangerous I believe!
@weaniejeanie53 Not seen one as yet. Perhaps I'll go and look? But maybe I won't bother. I might be excommunicated. 😃😅😂🤣
@BogLoper I’ve seen a couple posted here by people who’ve received one. I’ve already been excommunicated over a month ago so I can’t look.
@weaniejeanie53 Just went for a quick look and - still there, in spite of all the Mastodon posts and links I've been posting. Haha. Secret squirrel. Shhh!

@mikegalsworthy Steve Herman from The Voice of America ( @w7voa ) spoke for 15 mins on SkyNews this afternoon about being banned as a journalist. He went onto say he would return the moment the ban is lifted. 🤦‍♀️

He needs to make that jump and realise what many other now see as plain.

@mikegalsworthy it even happened to me. Also I can no longer amend my profile, I get a message saying it contains malware (ie the mastodon link.
@mikegalsworthy
It is hilarious and appalling at the same time. The whole site's going to collapse.
@mikegalsworthy Twitter just provided the platform, we the people made it great. Let’s stop making Twitter great again.
@mikegalsworthy I hopped on here tonight for the first time. Wandering lost…then you appeared. It feels real now !!

@noelgl

And here I am following you back!!

Great to see you here. Come in and enjoy. Feel free to peruse my timeline for new people to follow!

@mikegalsworthy thanks Mike, off to a good start !
@mikegalsworthy BBC isn't covering the whole story, Twitter has blocked every known mastodon instance. from 2k users, to 500k users. They must have assembled a huge blocklist just for this purpose, and it's kinda pathetic.
@mikegalsworthy Just tried, your'e right (not that I disbelieved you just wanted to try for myself). Haven't blocked the #BBC article though nor the #Mastodon hashtag

@mikegalsworthy

Where is the BBC on mastodon??

@mikegalsworthy I look forward to the day when a company setting up a mastodon instance is as natural as setting up a website
@johngbell95 @mikegalsworthy It makes a huge amount of sense for any large organisation.
@johngbell95 @mikegalsworthy inshallah I’m much preferring this to Twitter and I hope others do too.
@johngbell95 @mikegalsworthy I talk to @counsellingkaren a lot because of my background in local government Comms - I'm amazed local authorities aren't piling into this, using place based instances to build their local comms networks
@johngbell95 @mikegalsworthy They don't have to set up an instance but just have to integrate activity pub.
@johngbell95 @mikegalsworthy are we talking strictly. Hamza - what a guy..
@mikegalsworthy ... spell it mast*don and musk lets it pass...
@mikegalsworthy
When he is doing this to allow the rich and powerful to suppress the voices of ordinary people Twitter will just become Truth Social or Parler.
@SatansSister @mikegalsworthy sorry, what does this mean? Anyone who pays basically can auto block someone by downvoting their tweet?

@mikegalsworthy:

. o O { the Bird-Man of Muskrataz } O o .

@mikegalsworthy
They can't block ideas that you copy & paste...
