Welcome.
@acosta Welcome, Jim.
We have a nifty thing going here -- thanks for joining in.
A note: "boosts" are the way we share posts with our followers (likes are only shared with the poster, as G_d intended lol).
Lots of people have feelings about "CW" (content warnings).
Basically, though, it's more chill here.
Let the last few weeks—and particularly the last few hours—be a lesson to anyone considering joining Post, Hive or any corporate social network walled garden: What is happening to Twitter can happe...
@acosta The hope is the "it" here is very different in "it becomes a dumpster fire." With Twitter, the "it" was a corporation that has been bought. Here, the "it" is a loose federation of computers running open source software.
I suppose, however, to some extent email is a dumpster fire: spam; every store you've ever patronized emailing you til eternity; not as user friendly as chat. The mastodon protocol could become a dumpster fire like that I suppose.
To be fair, it was just a one human who completely burned Twitter to the ground. It was taking on water quite slowly for a long time before Musk lost his mind and tried to drag the whole world down with him.
It was just one man: Elon Musk. Who else would it be?
I disagree with that narrative. Twitter had it's problems, but it wasn't a dystopian authoritarian nightmare like it has become this week.
Before Musk, Twitter was trying to be a social network, now it is Musk's private dictatorship.

Welcome and what a cute dog! I'm told if one follows @donmelton all will be well.
@acosta I've only been here 2 weeks but I've never seen anyone arguing.
No name-calling.
Just lots of enthusiast help for whatever your interests are, Jim.
I just posted a very nice recipe for Tahini scones for two.
Hah. 😅
You'll be fine💕
@acosta not humans. Just musk.
Welcome.
