This isn’t a dunk on any of my employers past or present, but seriously, who are these business people whose employers buy them business class tickets for short haul domestic flights? I fly at least multiple times a month - but it’s economy so I don’t make the top of the long upgrade lists, either. I get that some of them are probably people who fly a couple times a week and just have insane status but… all of them? Are there actually companies who fly certain people business class as a policy?
@hacks4pancakes I can only speak from my experience as a corporate travel agent many moons ago, that yes, there were different classes of service written into the company travel policy. Those policies could vary by type of event they were going to, their seniority level, or just the travel time involved regardless of their job level. Just as an aside, one aspect that we had to do manually back then was keeping track of who all was on which plane as it wasn't allowed to have too many folks from the same company on the same flight.

@InfoSecSherpa @hacks4pancakes companies do have policies on class of travel based on seniority. It's generally considered a perk for senior folks or perk for frequent travelers who are generally working while on a flight. There's also logic on being eligible on class of travel depending on distance of total travel.

At my company, I get to fly business because of my seniority (perk). As @InfoSecSherpa says, some track who's on a flight. We track this detail automatically through our travel booking platform to alert on risking too many key people on 1 flight and be able to quickly determine location and safety of staff in the event of an emergency.
