Berlin is considering the possibility of a car-free area larger than Manhattan. The citizen-driven plan would create the largest car-free area in a city anywhere in the world.

Yes the mayor a social democrat and the whole berlin party are very pro car. It is very difficult to even get the tiniest improvements for cycling infrastructure despite there is a law in place that actually should guarantee safe biking and walking infrastructure in the city called the Mobilitätsgesetzt.
