From the Magnificat:

"He has shown strength with his arm;
    he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.

He has brought down the powerful from their thrones
    and lifted up the lowly;

he has filled the hungry with good things
    and sent the rich away empty."

(Luke 1:51-53, NRSV updated)

The Canticle of the Turning, based on the Magnificat, is my favorite #Advent hymn.

"Though the nations rage from age to age
We remember
Who holds us fast
God's mercy must deliver us from the conqueror's crushing grasp.

This saving word that our forebears
heard is the promise which holds us bound
'Til the spear and rod can be
Crushed by God
Who is turning the world around.

My heart shall sing of the day you bring
Let the fires of your justice burn
Wipe away all tears
For the dawn draws near
And the world is about to turn!"

@nicedragon
Yes, mine too! Huzzah for the Canticle of the Turning!
@nicedragon Not come across it before -any guidance as to music/tune?

@Andii The tune is "The Star of the County Down." You can find information about what hymnals it's found in here: https://hymnary.org/text/my_soul_cries_out_with_a_joyful_shout

It's one I always loved to introduce to my congregations -- it's "newer" than a lot of the traditional hymns.

@Andii Happy to share a favorite!
@nicedragon Love that one too! Our choir uses the SATB arrangement by Anne Krentz Organ. https://youtu.be/ZybexjDfk7s

@canticanovae Oh, thank you for sharing that. It was the hope that I needed at the end of a hard day.

The Canticle of the Turning is my favorite Advent hymn. I used to introduce it to my congregations, none of whom had ever heard it before (although I think it's in the new denominational hymnal now).

@nicedragon So glad it gave you a lift! It's not in our hymnal yet, but the choir loves to share it. It's beautiful for Advent or evening prayer.
