Why do we allow unhoused, mentally ill, drug addicted people to refuse shelter so they can have the freedom to slam seriously bad drugs on sidewalks and then terrorize people with no plan or solution to do something about it? I’m truly just asking a question as to why we are asked to be ok with this. #homeless #homelessness #drugs #drugaddiction #fentanyl
@thao because they are not drug addicted, 44% have jobs. and to get into most shelters you have to be in line at 5PM or earlier. If you get off work later than 5, you can't go to those shelters. Shelter's have all sorts of rules that make it difficult to stay. Also most have stairs, so people in wheelchairs cannot stay there. educate yourself https://invisiblepeople.tv/news/

@AliceMarshall thank you for the perspective and you are absolutely right. Not everyone is dealing with addiction issues but most are in this shelter. Very good point. I’m just talking about the one dorm style temporary housing shelter I’m working with. It’s a transitional temporary housing program. Over 90% of those who are accepted into the program (this one you have to apply to, it’s not a stand in line situation) leave without alerting the staff of why they are leaving.
@AliceMarshall it also has an elevator and Ramps. It is also run by a group that focuses on creating a safe spaces, but they will admit that it is a challenge. We are all working hard to learn from others successes and mistakes so that we can create an environment that’s conducive to helping people get back on their feet after experiencing the traumas they have had to live through. Bless you.
