Last year, #SantaCon was a superspreader that contributed to the disastrous Omicron surge that killed hundreds of thousands of people.

Did we learn our lesson? Nope. SantaCon is back this weekend, just as COVID cases are surging again in NYC and the city issues a mask advisory.

@luckytran The covid crisis should really have been called the lesson learning crisis.
@zinston @luckytran Is this what unconsciously trying to assist an extinction event via foolishness and neglect looks like?

@luckytran Yep. For all the howling and border closures about South Africa, Omicron spread directly around the world from the US.

The reason Omicron was bred in the US, you ask? In my opinion, this highly-transmissible mutation was bred out of the large-scale (at the rate of six tweets per second at its peak), paid Trend Takeover (by foreign state bad actors) disinformation campaign on Twitter, aimed at Americans, that hit its peak on Sept. 11, 2021:

That was the *second* disinformation campaign in 2021. First one ended with Delta.

Twitter was the pandemic equivalent to the world as Radio Télévision Libre des Mille Collines was to the Rwandan genocide, is what I'm saying.

Tens of millions are dead, two variants, the second of which has become impossible to bring under control. All because of Twitter.

"Elno" needs to let *that* sink in, not the one he carried into the buidling!!

Anime convention of 53K is first US case study for omicron spread, CDC says

CDC says over 35,000 anime fans have already been contacted.

@luckytran Correlation or causation?
@riedlr @luckytran It is not reasonable to suggest that tens of thousands of people descending on NYC for a day of unmasked, drunken, close-up revelry may have had no impact on a surge which started showing up on test numbers just a few days later. Sure, it wasn't the sole cause of the surge, but Dr. Tran didn't say it was, they said it was a contributing factor.
In short, causation, not correlation.
@luckytran Aside from the fact that #SantaCon is just kind of…gross. Unless you happen to enjoy watching people vomit on the subway.
@emilycroybarker @luckytran Even without COVID, SantaCon was always a public health crisis.

@luckytran Not only do Americans not learn from experience, we actively refuse to learn.

Spreading covid is the national policy now, thanks largely to the people who -- insisting that their convenience superseded any rights of others not to be infected with a disease that sickens and kills -- forced the rest of us to live in their world.

@luckytran 😱 😱 😱 😱 😱 😱
@luckytran wanted to go walk the car free 5th Ave today. Not now, plus weather sux.
