Last year, #SantaCon was a superspreader that contributed to the disastrous Omicron surge that killed hundreds of thousands of people.

Did we learn our lesson? Nope. SantaCon is back this weekend, just as COVID cases are surging again in NYC and the city issues a mask advisory.

@riedlr @luckytran It is not reasonable to suggest that tens of thousands of people descending on NYC for a day of unmasked, drunken, close-up revelry may have had no impact on a surge which started showing up on test numbers just a few days later. Sure, it wasn't the sole cause of the surge, but Dr. Tran didn't say it was, they said it was a contributing factor.
In short, causation, not correlation.
