AG0NY@ai6yr see, this is another reason I really really don't want anything that requires an internet connection to function... companies come and go, i want to have an edge control device, let my stuff on the network talk to that, behind firewalls! If i choose to let that device talk to a web site or a device, car, whatever, it's a choice not by demand or ransom. Brick by forced update shouldn't exist
@AG0NY Exactly. I mean, Tesla could brick your car (or give anyone access to the video camers) if the Melon Husk dude doesn't like you, which is stupid.
@ai6yr or like happened recently, an iot company just disappears, and took down their servers... Poof! Entire ecosystem gone, bricked... Temporary until people figured out workarounds, but completely the wrong direction imho
@AG0NY Yep, agree. Stuff that bricks when a company decides to brick it (or goes out of business) is a no-no for me. Unless you just want to assume it will be disposable.
