An RPG game doesn't need good mechanics for a good story to work. But, good mechanics that help foster story help GMs and players who aren't necessarily the best storytellers tell better stories.

I realize I redundantly wrote RPG game. :( I feel like the grand point is still valid.
@jheath We've got an Edit function :)
@benkramer For some reason when I tap the message it just lists Delete and Open in Browser, at least on the app.
@jheath Ah, likely the app devs aren't keeping up. Consider trying Fedilab on Android.
@jheath ah, itโ€™s just like PIN numbers. Sometimes clarity trumps correctness ๐Ÿ˜€
@jheath yup. This is why I sit in the "systems matter" camp, and why I detest "Oh just use DnD" as the rote answer for every game type.

@jheath I don't necessarily disagree with this. But I do feel that mechanics play an important role beyond storytelling. Storytelling is only one aspect of #TTRPG

Good mechanics engage players and drive the game. Great mechanics can be a source of fun in and of their their own right.
