When you're 20, the world seems like it's in stasis; R.E.M. and the Talking Heads will put out another record, Anne McCaffrey will write another book about dragons, Ally Sheedy and Lea Thompson are 24 years old forever, and then one day it isn't in stasis. All that stuff is a long time ago. Another generations pop culture detritus, maybe two generations ago-- and instead of stasis everything is moving pretty fast.

@PatrickZircher my daughter stumbled upon a long clip of Cindy Crawford interviewing a metric ton of musicians and actors on an old House of Style episode today. I watched a few minutes then realized it was literally from thirty years ago, yet how everyone appeared in the clip seemed just normal and contemporary to me. Danger, danger, Will Robinson! But speaking, I feel like being immersed in a solitary echo chamber. It is not my kids’ fault though. They’re from the future
@PatrickZircher you're telling me I'm old, but that's okay; my kids do it daily!
@PatrickZircher Yep. When you are 50–to pick an age at random!—you are living a different kind of time than you lived when you were 20. It’s a curse and a superpower at the same time.
