Good morning Mastodon! I just gently put my #birdsite account to sleep, deleting all posts and likes I could. I also unfollowed everybody I was following. I didn't find a way to remove followers in bulk without blocking them (any ideas?). I'm still going to try to delete more over the next couple of days but the scripts available seem to be struggling a bit. I'm not going to delete the account completely (yet) to prevent misuse of my username. Feels good. :)

I just massively deleted my tweets using one of the various online tools, then left one in English and one in Italian pointing to my account here on the fediverse.
No need to unfollow/cleanup the followers, they'll probably get your message and just refollow you here just in case.
Make sure to have a link or at least the entire at username at instance format in bio, so that people can find you with the migration tools!

@janbeta why don’t you just keep the account active but never use it? Followers won’t get any new content and nobody can take your handle. Also you can advertise in there your mastodon address so people know where to find you!

@duhanebel That's basically what I did. Mastodon link is in the bio, I just didn't want to keep my data with the spaceman (who literally owns it now personally).

@janbeta I did much the same. I deleted almost all my tweets. I don't expect I'll tweet much there, except in reply to people, and have ephemeral at to delete tweets after 30 days now.

I do the same in the last days, so far i found half of the peeps i followed here in the fediverse. The rest i will defollow on the birdsite over the next weeks, hoping they find their way out of the birdcage

@janbeta to lose the followers I've seen the suggestion to deactivate the account and then reactivate straight away (it will have a 30-day grace period). Although I haven't actually tried that myself.

@MrLurch Oh, it does but in a slightly different way. DMs here are basically just posts hidden from everybody else. Got me confused at first because they look like regular toots at first.
