Aaand the COVID minimizing to "avoid a panic" has begun🤦🏻‍♀️ I wonder how that will turn out- it's a mystery

#SZDOpinion The release of critical #COVID-related data is very important for local officials to draw up appropriate #pandemic control and mitigation measures, and for the public to adopt a rational attitude towards #Omicron. #misinformation #transparency

Omicron Much Deadlier Than Flu Shows Risks of Easing Too Soon

The omicron strain of Covid-19 is at least 40% more lethal than seasonal flu, according Japanese scientists, underscoring the potential danger of lifting pandemic curbs too quickly and underestimating the virus’s ongoing health risks.

"Omicron is mild"✅

Omicron variants killed more people than Delta in many places. While Omicron is less deadly *if you get infected*, the infection rate is far higher- so often the total mortality rate is higher.

Deaths Due to Omicron Higher Than From Delta

This week the nation recorded a seven-day average of 2,200 daily coronavirus-related deaths.

Omicron appears to pose a similar risk of long-COVID symptoms as the Delta variant does.

"We have to lie, to avoid a panic"✅
This one probably killed more people than anything else because once you've lied and lost the public trust you can never get it back.

The only thing that probably killed almost as many people is the four cognitive fallacies of the apocalypse:

What should be done- but is not, is Chinese language education that reflects the latest science about how COVID is transmitted. Instead, we get "wash your hands" and "wear a medical mask"- interventions we know to be ineffective against Omicron.
We know precisely what a sharp off-ramp from Zero-COVID on the Mainland will look like by looking at Chinese Taiwan and Hong Kong- who have far better healthcare systems. If we do as "well" as TW- over 800k will die in less than a year. If as "well" as Hong Kong- over 2 million.
COVID minimizers in positions of power like @[email protected], suffering from normalcy bias have *consistently* contributed to significant losses of life in *every* country by leaving people unprepared and ill-informed- and it will do the same here.

@SexyCyborg I'm so sorry to see that the hard-won lessons you yourself have been covering (for years now!) aren't making a dent in official policies at all.
@SexyCyborg Well at least you get the wear a mask -bit, that's completely optional in the Nordics. As in almost nobody bothers, and people get sick in droves.
@SexyCyborg My (lay) understanding: Masks are less effective against Omicron, because it produces more viral particles, but masks still help. See https://www.health.com/condition/infectious-diseases/coronavirus/do-masks-protect-against-omicron-variant which cites reliable sources

@SexyCyborg I believe we should call it PCS / Post Covid Syndrome. As it ends with „syndrome“ it‘s closer to „AIDS“ than „Long Covid“. The latter is also most commonly associated with the direct after hit, and not so much with long term consequences. German MDs seem to have settled for it (German only): https://www.bundesaerztekammer.de/fileadmin/user_upload/BAEK/Themen/Medizin_und_Ethik/BAEK_Stellungnahme_Post-COVID-Syndrom_ONLINE.pdf
@SexyCyborg Covid is not my favorite, but your information is good
@SexyCyborg It sure wasn't mild for the first 15 hours. I thought I might be in real trouble.
