@chucker Thanks I hate it.

@pixel @chucker

Thank you! As someone who worked on System 7, that was a shocking, but valuable comparison.

@scottjenson @pixel as a kid from across the pond who grew up on a Mac LC, you don’t know how cool as hell it is to have someone from the System 7 team reply to my silly toot ❤️
@scottjenson @chucker Amazing! What part did you work on? System 7 was great.
@pixel @chucker I was a ux designer, working on a whole bunch of stuff
@chucker in the 80s, the original macs had tiny black & white screens, and everything was focused on spitting out paper from a printer.
@chucker damn it's crazy how far we've come
@chucker I miss the old MacOS when windows opened in the background
@chucker Thanks. I didn't feel old enough this morning. Now I do.
@chucker I still prefer the one on the left
@chucker still have my 20 year old Macs!
@chucker more evidence that the 90s will forever feel like ten years ago.
@jake @chucker I went to college in the early 90s, it is therefore the coolest time period. That’s how these things work.
@chucker what does this post mean?
@xvyabo it means we’re all old, unfortunately
@chucker I hate that this is correct.
@alatartheblue it’s definitely how my brain works. 1992 was 20 years ago.
@chucker I miss Oscar the Grouch singing “I love trash” whenever I dragged something to the trash can. I will start my old Mac cube just to put something in the trash.
@LilAudrey @chucker I miss the eyeballs following my cursor! and scaring my classmates with “the radiation shield on your macintosh has failed, please step back five feet” system alert 🤣
@amatecha @LilAudrey haven’t tried, but https://langui.net/xeyes/ seems to still be maintained 😈

@chucker @trisweb please stop, my aching back can’t take it 👴🏻
@chucker I just miss having a Finder that could remember where I positioned all of my windows!
@thomasjpr it’s interesting how some things just never improved since 10.0. My Finder pet peeve is how network mounts are still unreliable — much more so than on Windows.
@chucker I do miss the early Jobs-era OS X. Tiger will always be my favorite.
@chucker Why did you have to say such things?
@chucker I still pine for 10.6.8 ❄️🐆
@chucker Mac OS X was ahead of its time and has aged very well. A modern macOS user can boot up an old G3 iMac and feel right at home.

@chucker wow that's confusing enough to read already,

imagine someone using a screen reader.

@chucker it makes me nostalgic of the Mac OS 7, I loved the esthetic so much 💜
@chucker Now we have beautiful solid color backgrounds across web apps because they're taking inspiration from OS's. We've gone backwards, regressions, from outstanding designs to... whatever this crap is everyone is doing recently with solid colors to save on loading times and bandwidth and calling it "design".
@chucker Thanks for reminding me how old I really am. 😂
@chucker oh how well I remember them both.
@chucker
Hehe, was using it already 20 years ago... #backinthedays
@chucker Finder or MultiFinder? That’s the Q

@bgs I’m vaguely aware of MultiFinder and we did also have System 6, briefly (I believe it was 6.0.7), though I don’t remember why (maybe System 7 was too slow on our LC? Or some apps were incompatible?)

I was mostly too young for the pre-7 era

@chucker cool. Yes, if I remember right, after the earliest version 6.0.x releases, it became more stable, maybe at 6.0.4 and was used a lot. Big break going to System 7 which forced upgrades of various software, eg FileMaker.
@chucker I hated it back then, I hate it now

@chucker

I feel seen. Very, very seen.

@chucker @profcarroll Okay, I came to Mastodon trying to *avoid* personal attacks, thank you very much.
@chucker To be fair, it was a bit of a messy mashup of those two screenshots because I was still running Classic OS 9 applications with old-style window frames under OS X 😅
@chucker The one on the left looks like my boss’s mid-80s Apple Lisa.
@Pdlobster yeah, part of the Mac’s original motivation was “how can we make the Lisa a lot cheaper so people actually buy it”
@chucker tfw a screenshot calls me old 🥺
@chucker This is violence. Blocked and reported. 😆
@chucker can we appreciate for a moment how the overall design of the system has remained virtually unchanged throughout the years. This is in contrast to windows which seems to try reinventing itself every other release
@chucker My daily dose of feeling old. Thank you!
