I walked to my local postbox this afternoon. Can you see why the 2.5 mile round trip took an hour and a half? I love how the light plays on the hills in the late afternoon. Highlighting lumps, bumps, mountains and the occasional castle! I also met my new favourite Herdwick ram, I called him Leo. @HeartofArgyll Haha, this is making me giggle, Ernie, never. And why is he so far from the Lake District Fells? I've obviously lost a few decades as thought Herdwicks hefted on the fells. ooops just googled, seems they migrated 😜

@keznoa our local sheep farmer bought a small Herdwick flock as a hobby when he retired from the hill farm behind where I live, so I get the beautiful souls in the land around my old farm house. Ernie is his second tup, the original was called Hendricks (after the gin). The lambs are adorable. Hendricks escaped when he first arrived and the Scottish black face flock produced a few more black lambs than expected! So we have some wonderful crosses now.

@HeartofArgyll Interesting, I've already set a story in Borrowdale with my main male character building a Herdwick flock back in 1860s. Perhaps I should do a short story around Scottish Herdwick crosses? I don't do romance usually, but this could be it! What are the fleeces used for please?

@keznoa im not sure. The few pure Herdwick fleeces have been passed on to local spinners in the past. The guys shear the blackface flocks between themselves when they can because its more money to hire shearers in than they get back for the wool. They have to shear for welfare reasons.
