@TimonTomato Yes!! I just don't see a point in teaching students rigid, prescriptive rules that will make them think native speakers don't know how to speak correctly! I tell them what is expected in academic contexts and then how people actually speak, and how that varies depending on speech community. There's someone that works at the same tech school as me that likes to say that most Americans can't speak proper English as well as the ESL students and I just wanna smack them.
