What you think What Mario was
Mario was 20 years ago
20 years ago
@djlink please don't force me to look truthfully at the time flying...
@PierreM itโ€™s a Time Machine
@djlink ๐Ÿ‘ด this is me after looking at those images.
@aww_yeaa this is one of those AI aging apps to see how we look :D
@djlink sometimes, I still catch myself thinking the PS3 is still the current gen console from Sony. This is jarring to me lol
@oldschooltf2 itโ€™s actually PS4, oh wait PS5. Time flies
@djlink how dare you ๐Ÿ˜ข
@wrenegade Iโ€™m sorryyy!!!
But also โ€ฆ
@djlink When I was little I was gifted a console by the times of the SNES. We personally couldn't afford them so I had only have some cursory contact with the original Super Mario Bros. - Super Mario World was the first Mario game I played from start to finish, beat many times, etc etc.

It wasn't until I played Mario 3 in an emulator that I realized so much stuff that I assumed came from World, were actually established in Mario 3... really amazing game tbh. Groundbreaking
@jec
The Game Boy Advance version of Super Mario Bros. 3 was my first Mario game, and New Super Mario Bros shortly after. I never beat Mario 3, but I still love that game.
@djlink
@jec same thing, my first console was SNES witb SMW, I had played SMB1 only at a friends so o also assumed everything here was from World, quite interesting to try SMB3 a few years later
@djlink Why does "20 years ago" feel like 1992?

@djlink oh

oh shit

my time machine has put me into the wrong year

no

this is very bad

very, very bad

*checks watch*

that explains, well... *looks around*

uh... brb

@reneestephen @djlink I hate this era. So many of us time travelers end up stuck here when our devices fail (yes, the destination does default to the start of the Unix Epoch on rebootโ€”known bug), and the temporal distortion field means we are stuck here, aging until we reach the point in time when the TDF fades out. I canโ€™t wait to go home.

@bhawthorne 2038 can't get here fast enough. And yet somehow it'll feel too fast...

@djlink

@djlink
... You win this round, random internet stranger! ๐Ÿ˜  ๐Ÿ˜ค
@djlink this blowing my mind to unreasonable degree

@djlink And yet Nintendo games often still look closer to the second image in quality.

Makes you think.

(Well, no, but it is funny how priorities change)

@djlink hahaha 2000โ€™s Mario not 1980โ€™s Mario
@djlink It's too early to be assaulted with the truth like this.
@djlink: How fast has the 20 years gone by. ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ
@djlink still recall sitting on the living room floor in my matching frilly SpongeBob pajamas running around as Mario in sunshine like a menace. Snacking on my toast and dieing a lot. Good times.
@djlink It looks like someone woke up and chose violence when they posted ๐Ÿ˜‚
@djlink I never got a chance to play any of the โ€œmodernโ€ Mario games. Anything past Mario 64 is new to me.
@khalidabuhakmeh you should play Mario Wonder, really good.
@djlink I might buy a Nintendo Switch 2 when that comes out. Iโ€™m just not a handheld person as much as I tried with retro devices. It just hurts my wrists.
