This article makes an argument I’ve been pointing out for a while. The studios had Netflix envy and started trying to compete with Netflix instead of selling them content.

So they went from a profitable business selling shows to Netflix/cable/TV & making movies to an unprofitable business chasing streaming revenue and trying to acquire customers. https://www.latimes.com/business/technology/story/2023-07-21/column-hollywood-sag-aftra-strike-strike-silicon-valleys-magical-thinking

Tony graciously joined us at our last MacWorld San Francisco in 2009 and sang “I Left My Heart in San Francisco”.

I bet the first guy to ever throw shit into a fan had no idea what an incredible legacy he would leave behind.

It's an amazing, otherworldly sight, if you've ever been lucky enough to witness it.

Probably my most memorable occasion was in the 1990s, on a road trip through Maryland and Pennsylvania... early one summer evening, we stopped at the site of Antietam, the bloody Civil War battle... and there, as dusk set in, the fields all around us unexpectedly began lighting up with thousands of fireflies. It was unforgettable!
