We're all searching for a book that is appealing to open AND one that they genuinely will want to read, maybe even right away during their holiday break. Not only that, but we also tend not to bog readers down with overly difficult/dense/heavy material, especially if the reader isn't a constant-voracious-will-read-anything type of reader. So what do you choose? Here are our staff's recommendations and our reasons why we think they make good gifts: RABBIT CAKE by Annie Hartnett This novel could be the best gift I've ever gotten my mom. It has a funny and touching child-narrated voice that makes for both an easy, quick read and a heartfelt one. SHE IS A BEAST by Christina Rosso An illustrated collection of Feminist fairy tales, great for any of the women in your family--from 17 or so and up. It takes classic tales (or invents new ones) where the women are the heroes and there are no damsels in distress. Also, it's just a great physical object with a unique layout. They'll flip through it immediately for the cool illustrations. DUCKETT & DYER: DICKS FOR HIRE by GM Nair Funny funny funny sci-fi! Just have your recipient look at the title and back cover, and they'll know exactly what type of hilarity they're in for. THE RELUCTANT RV WIFE by Gerri Almand Anybody in your life just get an RV? Anybody thinking of doing it? Get them this book! Gerri Almand is hilarious, and she really could get the person in your life excited about their travels. Plenty of practical advice is in there too! BIBI BLUNDERMUSS AND THE TREE ACROSS THE COSMOS by Andrew Durkin Our Middle Grade pick, great for ages 9-12! Andrea Marks-Joseph calls it, "a fantastic read with an authentic, powerful representation of the courage young girls hold inside their hearts." A VERY CHILLING MYSTERY by Steve A. Erickson This Children's pick is full of imagination, has a creative premise, and follows through on it BIG TIME. Fun for parents too! ~~ Got any books you like to gift?
