In today's edition of @TheGuardian:

Endless debates about soup and paintings serve those who’d prefer we ignore the climate crisis:

"The rigid focus, which dominates the government and much of the media, on how much activism is too much, isn’t designed to score any points about civil disobedience, but to destroy the unity that is the last real hope for any meaningful action." ~ @zoesqwilliams 👏🏻

Opponents of meaningful action are trying to sidestep the immediacy of the threat to our planet, says Guardian columnist Zoe Williams

That's been the narrative of the establishment since beginning of time in UK. Look at Windrush. There's a litany of deliberate prevarication followed up with media gaslighting.

Interesting piece. 1 flaw, as I see it. The world managed to engineer out CFCs that clearly damaged the ozone layer.

Humanity could've done the same with fossil fuels. But fossil fuel firms learnt early on how to influence change. Far earlier before majority were aware and certainly still well before politicians are aware, if at all.

@paul_briley @jacklowe @TheGuardian @zoesqwilliams CFCs didn't pose a fundamental challenge to capitalism; they could be replaced with barely a glitch on duPont's balance sheet. The environmental movement that could be successful on CFCs didn't have a prayer in a head-on confrontation with the core activity of petrocapitalism. In this sense the success on ozone hurt the climate.
