Biden just knifed labor unions in the back. They shouldn’t forget it

"People will point out that strikes are disruptive. Yes. That’s the point. A rail strike would be so disruptive that the rail companies probably would have given up the sick days to prevent it – and if they didn’t, the White House could have weighed in on the side of the workers to make them. Instead, it did the opposite..."

Biden just knifed labor unions in the back. They shouldn’t forget it

US railway workers threatened to strike until they got paid sick leave. The president’s administration chose political cowardice

@baslow “but also to mandate #PaidSickDays for the workers . . . amendment [] would guarantee seven paid sick days for #RailWorkers #railstrike https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/nov/30/us-rail-strike-congress-house-senate-union-sick-leave

Yes, but as the op-ed I linked to pointed out:

"rescuing hope for those workers fell to Bernie Sanders and to progressives in the House, who forced congressional leaders to move a separate bill to guarantee the sick leave they were asking for. As usual, it was the Left that went to the trouble of fighting for labor after the party’s mainstream sold it out for the sake of convenience."

Not Biden's doing

@baslow The process is complicated, #oversimplification is a form of #disinformation. “have been in regular touch with labor leaders and management," Biden said in his statement announcing his decision. "They believe that there is no path to resolve the dispute at the bargaining table and have recommended that we seek Congressional action . . . intensively navigating for months. It marked a complex convergence of business and labor disputes“ https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2022/11/30/politics/biden-buck-labor-allies-rail-strike/index.html
Inside Biden's calculated move to buck labor allies in hopes of averting a rail strike

There were no illusions inside the White House that the decision to call on Congress to impose a negotiated labor agreement on railroad workers and operators would be universally well received, several officials said.

The process, like life, *is* complicated. I find that the firmest foundation of clarity is establishing who did what.
Not who said what -- not thoughts and prayers -- not verbal adornment -- but who demonstrably contributed to the outcome.
Judged by that criterion I don't see that I have advanced any oversimplification, let alone disinformation.
@baslow Great, because it leads to #FalseEquivocation

@stillconcerned

Given the definition of "equivocation" ( https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/equivocation) I am at a loss as to what "false equivocation" might be.

I tend to discontinue participation in conversations which have descended into incoherent word salad...or perhaps I should say #IncoherentWordSalad
