I love it in here. There's currently a hashtag named #thicktrunktuesday that is basically pics of massive, beautiful trees.
I humbly submit El Tule, an incredible ahuehuete from the state I was born, Oaxaca. It's over 2000 years old. "Tule" means "Tree of Enlightment" #Oaxaca #Mexico #ElTule It has the thickest trunk in the world.
@maritzac WOW! You’ve just won this hashtag!
@soniasivewright I love this tree and I'm happy more people can know about it!
@maritzac That's one mighty tree. 2,000 years old and still growing.
@j_g_fitzgerald Imagine how much history it has witnessed!
@maritzac that’s one single tree?
@kaybee One single tree! They had done genetic studies on different sections. It's a single organism.
@maritzac that is amazing! Nature is just awesome when you really dig in and look at it!
@maritzac i visited this tree! so amazing.
@nickterry did you see the animal shapes? :D
@maritzac we did lol! junior guide's notes were 10/10 😂
@maritzac
What an amazing and glorious tree, a true sentinel.
@maritzac what a magnificent living organism! Wow. People just have to be humbled living near El Tule.
@maritzac Bello! Aqui comparto uno de mis favoritos. #ThickTrunkTuesday. Un arbol de Ceiba.
@maritzac That trunk crosses a few time zones
@maritzac Not sure about that. There are many old churchyards which are surrounded by a ring of yew trees - except yews die in the middle and spread out. The curchyards are surrounded by a single tree! As to age, many cuurches were built on former pagan worship sites and the yews may well be more than 2,000 years old.

@jaydax @maritzac
John, you could look it up quite easily instead of speculating. Google is your friend.

I looked at several sources for trees of the greatest girth and none of them mentioned the ones you proposed, so it doesn't seem like your supposition is correct.

Sacred trees | Trees for Cities

Trees for Cities is the only UK charity working at a national and international scale to improve lives by planting trees in cities. We get stuck in with local communities to cultivate lasting change in their neighbourhoods – whether it’s revitalising forgotten spaces, creating healthier environments or getting people excited about growing, foraging and eating healthy food.

Ah, got it. I believe you are mistaken, and perhaps confused by the terms. El Arbol del Tule has a girth (circumference) of 36m. The first article mentions a grove of Yew trees, the largest of which has a girth of 6m. The map in the second article suggests girths up to 20m (approx 7m in diameter). The relevance of Yew trees becoming hollow is that the innermost tree rings are not available for dating the exact age of the tree. They are quite old.
@maritzac the others were amazing, probably even more so in person, but this one is mind blowing. so cool!
@maritzac
How magnificent! Are you fortunate enough to have visited it in real life?
@jaimeJ Yeah, many times! It's breathtaking in person!
@maritzac I adore trees and photograph them a lot!! This is FANTASTIC!!!
@maritzac if only it could tell us it’s thoughts! I love this, thank you for sharing!
